Quality refurbished phones
Smartphones are how a young generation works, learns and earns, but fewer than half of mobile connections in Sub-Saharan Africa are smartphones. Cost is the barrier, and without access to credit the second-hand market offers little protection: untested imports with no warranty.
MoPhones was founded in 2023 to close that gap. It sells certified refurbished smartphones on flexible credit through its own channels, agents and merchants. It has completed more than 12,000 device sales and financed over $7 million of smartphones.
Refurbishing also gives each phone a second life, avoiding the emissions and e-waste of making a new one. ADEME, the French environment agency, found that refurbished smartphones emit 92% less greenhouse gas than new ones.
