Redefining last-mile delivery in Africa
Globally, one-third of all food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted every year, generating 8–10% of Greenhouse gas emissions and driving avoidable deforestation, water waste, and biodiversity loss. In Africa, food losses are even higher (up to 50%) due to infrastructure gaps such as limited cold storage and fragmented logistics. Egypt ranks among the top contributors, wasting 73 kg of food per person annually.
Breadfast was founded in 2017 to tackle these challenges. Starting with freshly baked bread delivered to customers’ doors at 5am, the company has grown into a leading retail platform offering over 7,000 products and delivering in under 60 minutes across five cities in Egypt. By controlling a digitised supply chain end-to-end, from sourcing to last-mile delivery, Breadfast has reduced wastage to ~2%, far below industry averages.
"We began with bread and reimagined the entire grocery journey SKU by SKU through a fully vertically integrated supply chain. The result is a sophisticated engine that delivers consistent quality, speed, and value to a massive user base of customers."
"We are proud to partner with a team that has the vision and capability to lead the digital transformation of grocery shopping while creating lasting social and environmental value."
