Andrew co-founded one of the UK’s leading early-stage venture capital organisations focused on Digital Media and Life Sciences. He built SPARK Ventures (originally NewMedia Investors) from its roots as a corporate finance and capital raising boutique in 1996 to become the manager of multiple funds responsible for a range of investment strategies in the digital media and life science sectors, from pathfinder grants for exploitation of University intellectual property through seed and start up capital to expansion capital for growth enterprises. The two funds Andrew and his co-founders invested have achieved top decile performance for their vintage.In the process, Andrew created one of Europe’s largest quoted commercial incubators with a presence in the UK, Sweden, Germany and Spain, creating innovative new businesses, many of which have gone on to become established international companies in music, mobile content, publishing, entertainment, ecommerce, diagnostics, medical devices and drug discovery markets. Andrew then leveraged this experience to promote enterprise as a tool for economic and social regeneration across all sectors. He formed SPARK Impact in 2010 as a vehicle for an emerging impact investing asset class, which launched its first fund in the UK’s Northwest for the biomedical sector, and will soon be launching its second regional fund. In 2011 Spark Impact and SpringHill Equity Partners began to collaborate on East African venture opportunities. A graduate of the London School of Economics, Andrew qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG. He is married with three children.
